Critical Shortage of School Guards in Israel

With the public schools scheduled to open in about two weeks, officials report that some 20% of schools will be without armed security guards.

YWN reported earlier in August (HERE) that armed school guards receive an average salary of NIS 20.7 an hour while their counterparts in shopping malls and elsewhere receive an average of NIS 26-28 an hour.

Officials of the nationwide Parents Teachers Association have warned they will not tolerate a situation in which their children are in schools without protection, announcing they will instruct parents to leave their children home if the schools are not protected.

PTA officials are shocked that only a few months following the murder of eight students in Jerusalem’s Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva in Yerushalayim, police and government agencies appear willing to permit schools to operate without armed security personnel.
