Reports: Shaare Zedek Hospital Anesthesiologist Assaulted a a Patient

mishtAccording to a report released by Walla News, a chareidi woman complained on Tuesday morning, 23 Adar II that she was assaulted by an anesthesiologist during the predawn hours after receiving an epidural.

A relative of the woman, Chaim Reicher, spoke with Israel Radio’s Reshet Bet, explaining what occurred according to the woman. He explained she arrived on Monday morning the woman arrived in the ninth month of her pregnancy about to give birth. She asked for an epidural shortly after midnight.

Reicher adds the incident occurred near 05:00, explaining the doctor entered and saw her husband asleep. He then assaulted the woman.

Kikar Shabbos reports that the woman was crying, so a midwife entered and asked ‘what happened? She got a shot?’ she told the midwife her story and the midwife summoned the on-call director.”

By the time police arrived the doctor had left for home. The family is questioning why the doctor is not under arrest. Family members added at the time of the report that she had yet to give birth and she is traumatized. Israel Radio reports that police questioned the physician, but he was not taken into custody.

Reports add that in light of the fact she was given an epidural, there is a possibility that the entire event was imagined by the patient. Police are continuing to investigate with the total cooperation of the medical center.

Hospital officials responding to the report confirm a complaint was received; police are involved, and the physician has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

  1. Sounds completely made up.
    A) the husband was in the room
    B) the midwives are in and out of the rooms all the time
    C) epidural shouldn’t effect the upper body and mouth and if something really was started she should have had no problem to resist and scream
    D) from what I read on other sites the doctor has a stellar record and never had any complaints whatsoever in his career
    C) the “concerned cousin” who somehow was able to give in great detail to Galey Tzahal exactly what allegedly occurred in the same sentence said that she was still “incapacitated due to a long birth” so how he got such great detail is anyones guess…This same cousin seems to be a real troublemaker who is the head of an organization who made a secret meeting with the Palestinian Authority in Ramalla to gain entrance to K ever Yosef against Israeli law….(you can look it up yourself…)
Bkitzur the original reporter was so happy for a juicy headline and didn’t mind being judge, jury and executioner in this case and Hashem should save us from these times and Moshiach should come soon!

  2. Another person had to be in the room with the anesthesiologist and the patient. In order to insert an epidural the patient has to be sitting up with her back arched. A nurse or midwife is usually helping the patient maintain the correct position by having the patient rest her arms on the nurse’s shoulders or arms. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that this story is pure hogwash.

  3. To lkwdmama, as reported on other news sites, she didn’t claim it happened while the epidural was administered. Rather that it happened when the dr came about an hour later to check on her. I have given birth several times at Shaarei Tzedek (and also Hadassa) and it is standard procedure for the anesthesiologist to poke his head in the room for a minute to see how his patient is doing, or offer to top off with more meds if the epidural hasn’t taken to its full capacity.
I believe it could have happened, but it’s her word against his. Very sad if its true, and very sad for her if she made it up.
Other comments on other sites include how could the husband have been sleeping, etc. Been there, done that… Sometimes it’s a whole day or night (or both) before the couple is settled into a delivery room and when they do, especially after an epidural if things haven’t progressed the staff will encourage the couple to try and catch some rest. So it really could have happened.
