On a whirlwind two-day mission, former Republican presidential candidate and possible contender for the vice-presidency Governor Mike Huckabee, will join with Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) and Dr. Joseph D. Frager, Chairman of the Board of the Jerusalem Reclamation Project, on a “United Jerusalem” mission. “Jerusalem is the seat of three religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, but it can no more be divided than can our hearts,” said Assemblyman Hikind. Hikind and Huckabee will be meeting with Binyamin Netanyahu, the Likud candidate for Prime Minister, and will visit with victims of Kassam rocket attacks in Sderot.
Huckabee will tour the Kotel Quarter with Ateret Cohanim and survey the heroic work of the Jerusalem Reclamation Project, which has distinguished itself in reestablishing the historic millennial Jewish presence in the Old City. The Govern or bucked conventional policy by supporting the creation of a Palestinian state outside of Israel proper, in Egypt or Saudi Arabia.
“Governor Huckabee’s commitment to Israel is legendary. He is one of the great American leaders whose support of the Jewish state is inviolable,” said Hikind. “This will be Huckabee’s tenth trip to Israel, carrying with it the most import, as it is the run-up to the Republican National Convention.”
With respect to the greatest existential threat faced by Israel today from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, Huckabee declared, “America must be effective in the Middle East, and we must of course listen – and learn, and safeguard. But most of all we need to be resolute in our strength, military and moral. Specifically, we must not pay any sort of tribute to terrorist states – including the honor of ‘ listening’ in some formal setting, where every splenetic utterance will be aired worldwide….Together we must prevent nuclear proliferation and defeat Islamofascism. Together we must be the people who confront and overcome evil.”
Huckabee delivered the keynote address at the recent Jerusalem Reclamation Project – Ateret Cohanim dinner. “Governor Huckabee’s stature as a true lover of Zion is unparalleled in the American political establishment. He is a trailblazer and very truly wears his heart on his sleeve for the Jewish people and the Jewish state. It is an honor and a privilege to share with him this opportunity to reiterate the unity of Jerusalem,” Hikind said.

Look a lot of religious Christians understand the importance of Israel. Sadly, many of them understand this (and the Bible) more than many Jews. I have a very good Christian friend who is incredibly versed in Tanach, and sometimes he embarasses me because of his knowledge.
Now I know the left makes the argument that the Christians want to convert us. Perhaps that may be their goal. They also know that their messiah cannot come unless the state of Israel is controlled by Jews. So I guess when Mosiach comes we’ll have to ask if he’s coming for the first time or if it’s the second coming.
Seriously, there are many liberals (sadly too many Jews) that support a further divided Jerusalem and believe in this nonsense of a terrorist state next to Israel.
Aside from the religious implications, it’s also a question responsibilty to stand with democratic allies.
While there are obviously many seasoned politicos who are enamored with the support of people like Huckabee, I remain very uneasy knowing that his love of zion is motivated by his christian fundamentalism. The bottom line remains that his kind of “zion lovers” dream of a united Jerusalem in which one day all Jews will ch’v be united in their conversion to christianity. It’s one thing to express gracious appreciation for his support. It’s another thing to actively court his involvement in our cause. But I guess these folks no more than I do.
I commend Huckster for his support of Israel, despite his liberalism.
Liberalism!? The guy packs heat thats hardly liberal
