Mia’s Mother: “A Crime Against Humanity: Bring My Baby Home”

Keren Schem, the mother of Mia Schem, a dual Israeli-French citizen who was abducted by Hamas terrorists, who released a video of her on Monday, held a press conference in Tel Aviv on Tuesday morning.

Schem, 21, was abducted from the music festival in the Negev and witnesses said she was shot in the arm before she was hauled off to Gaza.

“Yesterday I saw a video of Mia on the news,” Keren said. “I got excited and screamed because I saw my Mia alive. But after all the excitement I saw the video again – I see that Mia’s injured – there were rumors that she was shot and you could see that her arm is injured.”

“She underwent surgery, I see that she’s in pain, that she is very scared, that she’s saying what she’s been told to say,” Keren added. “I see that her condition is stable, but I am very worried about her. I see this as an excellent and optimistic sign about Mia and about all our captives. We have to be optimistic here, I assume they are being taken care of.”

“All I’m asking of the world leaders is to bring my baby back home, in exactly the same condition I saw her on TV yesterday, and bring all our captives home. We’ve been through an insane terrorist attack. The enemy is cruel. This is a crime against humanity. Mia’s not the only one – there are many children who went to this party, there are many babies and children and elderly people and Holocaust survivors who were kidnapped, whose houses were burned.”

Uri, Mia’s 17-year-old brother, said: “I saw the video yesterday – Mia is screaming for us to save her, she is pale and scared but it’s a sign that she’s alive. I trust the government and all the world leaders that they will do everything necessary to return the captives home.”

According to a report by The New York Times, which analyzed data from the video, the video was filmed shortly after Mia was abducted as at least parts of it were filmed at least six days ago.

IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari commented on the video, saying that “this is psychological terror by Hamas against the citizens of Israel. Hamas tries to present itself as humane while it is in fact a horrific terror organization responsible for the murder and abduction of babies, children, men, women and the elderly.”

French President Emmanuel Macron responded to the video by saying it “it’s an ignominy to take innocent people hostage and put them on show in this odious way.” He called for Schem’s “immediate and unconditional release” and said that France was “working with its partners to free French hostages.”

  1. Hamas must be laughing about this. For all we know, they might have killed her already since they have a video. They let the world think she is still alive.
