Despite being his political opponent, President Joe Biden had some warm words for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday, after he was asked about the response to Hurricane Idalia that is currently ravaging the Sunshine State.

“Mr. President. Governor DeSantis is also running for president. You are running for reelection. Do you sense any politics in your conversations with him about this issue,” a White House reporter asked Biden, practically begging the president to bash DeSantis.

To his credit, Biden didn’t.

“No, believe it or not, I know this sounds strange, especially how the nature of politics today. But, you know, I was down there when the last major storm,” Biden responded. “I spent a lot of time with him walking from from community to community, making sure he had what he needed to get it done.”

“I think he trusts my judgment and my desire to help. And I trust him to be able to suggest this is not about politics, is about taking care of the people of this state,” he added.

  1. I am 100% a republican, and I plan on voting for Donald Trump in the General Election. And what I’m saying might be obvious, but I think people should keep in mind that this kind of rhetoric just makes the one saying it look stupid, not anyone else. Joe Biden complementing Desantis and showing concern for McConnell makes Biden look classy and like a mature, responsible leader of the free world. Which is a shame, because in terms of his policies he’s not. But it would be helpful if Trump learned some basic people skills and how to make himself look mature and responsible. I don’t mean political savvy, I just mean basic, basic people skills. Right now he just sound like someone with untreated ASD.

  2. It seems the wrong video made it in. Unless of course the video was never supposed to have any connection with the title of the piece or of anything written inside it either

  3. yeshivaman613 – the president and former president have both had long careers spanning many decades. One of the two has a very clear record of compassion and kindness, even if he’s not the smartest or most capable. The other has well-earned his reputation as a vulgar, impulsive, self-centered, petulant, vengeful bully. Refinement, compassion, kindness, maturity are just not words that describe him. But I guess we are in Elul and believe that people can change so maybe….

  4. To clarify, I meant that trump’s insulting rhetoric just ends up making him look stupid and like he has untreated ASD.
M – I’m not even referring to middos. People just won’t respect someone who tosses around insults like a 3 year old. They respect someone who is willing to say he’s putting politics aside. I don’t mind having a president with bad middos, I don’t look to him as my role model. But one that lowers the entire esteem of the republican party and its causes? That’s another story.

  5. As is true of all incumbents in the executive branches of government, when running for office it is important to appear to be doing you job – which is what Biden and DeSantis are trying to appear to be doing.
