Ben-Eliezer Seeking Chareidi Support for Presidency Bid

belMK (Labor) Binyamin Ben-Eliezer has been working to get chareidi backing in his bid to become Israel’s next president. Last week Ben-Eliezer requested attending a Yahadut Hatorah faction meeting and he received approval from MK Rabbi Menachem Eliezer Moses. Ben-Eliezer attended a meeting on Wednesday, 17 Adar II.

He spoke to the MKs for ten minutes, seeking to persuade them to support his candidacy. He mentioned his ties over the years with the chareidi tzibur and political parties and asked for their support.

Ben-Eliezer also asked for and received a meeting with the Belzer Rebbe Shlita. Speaking with Kol Chai Radio he explained that he is acquainted with the rebbe for over 20 years and this was not his first meeting. When asked what was discussed the veteran MK suggested speaking to the rebbe’s representative in Knesset, Rabbi Yisrael Eichler, unwilling to discuss details of the meeting on the air.

When asked about his vote in the recent draft bill, Ben-Eliezer did not try to evade the matter. He explained that is how his party voted and he stands behind this, but this in no way discounts his years of good relations with Israel’s chareidi tzibur.

Regarding the draft law, one should be aware Ben-Eliezer is a retired IDF brigadier-general and a former defense minister.

  1. Where does he stand on cultural issues?
If I recall, he’s on the far-Left, as far as these issues go, as well.
Hareidim do not have any connection to the agenda of the far-Left.
Revenge should not play a part in any Jew’s decision, it only serves those who would see us divided from making peace with our true colleagues.
This whole crisis was set up by the Supreme “Court”/media/academia troika who desire the destruction of the spiritual/political/cultural Israel as we know it, they are strengthened by this division among brothers. Our rabbis are very intelligent and with the help of HKBH, we will overcome our strife and reach an acceptable result, B-H.
