The fact that the vehicles were actually being operated by terrorists was unknown to the individual pilots themselves. Therefore, an order to engage the ambulances constituted an illegal order which need not be followed.
It wasn’t the first ambulance over the years, used by anti Usrael Arab terrorists. And in this case, the pilots were told that there are dangerous people there.
