TEHILLIM: 8-Year-Old In Critical Condition After Choking On Candy

As first reported on Lakewood Alerts, an 8-year-old boy from Lakewood is in critical condition after choking on a candy on Thursday.

Hatzolah paramedics responded to the boy’s home in the Ridge neighborhood mid-afternoon, and found the patient with a small ball from a popular candy lodged in his throat.

The object was finally removed, but the boy is now in very serious condition.

Parents are advised to ensure that all candies bought for children are safe and contain no choking hazards.

Please daven for Dovid Aryeh ben Bracha.

  1. Let’s encourage ALL parents to learn the pediatric Heinrich maneuver.
Try nortonchildrens door com for info…

  2. How in the world did someone think it was a good idea to sell this to children?? I hope there’s consequences if there was a reckless disregard for safety here…

  3. I’m very dismayed at the proliferation of these Chinese (yes, check the origin on the label) candy/toys. I see them in all the stores now. They are alluring to children because of their toy like nature and (of course) have hideous amounts of sugar in them, but these are cheaply constructed and could fall apart in a mouth before you know it. Please don’t buy these dangerous treats. There’s plenty of sugar available without plastic parts that can get lodged in small airways.

  4. @rofehardamah I’m assuming you were a victim of autocorrect and meant Heimlich maneuver.

And, THANK YOU, I wholeheartedly agree – ALL PARENTS should. Many don’t realize that it’s different for infants than for adults. I’ve had to use it twice (once for a niece and once for a nephew) and was able to teach my brother (who I also saw use on my nephew). I’ve never seen it used on an adult.

Precious little ones are like ninjas when it comes to popping things in their mouths and a few minutes of learning can make a lifetime of difference.
