The move aims to provide a secure and convenient solution for residents while also reducing the environmental impact associated with excessive truck transportation.
The package lockers, designed to be easily accessible and secure, will be strategically placed in various locations across the city, including apartment buildings, residential complexes, and commercial areas. Delivery personnel will be able to securely deposit packages in the lockers, and recipients will receive a unique code or notification to retrieve their items at their convenience.
Apart from addressing package security concerns, the deployment of package lockers is expected to have a positive “environmental impact”. By reducing the number of individual delivery truck trips, NYC aims to minimize traffic congestion, lower emissions, and contribute to a greener and more sustainable city. And again nyc residents will be steps behind those who reside outside the city, because of criminals.
So instead of punishing criminals you’re going to make people go get their packages from some locker where thieves can wait and follow people picking up their packages to steal it from them. Genius idea!
Great idea, until the thieves figure out how to hack or pop the locks on these lockers and they can just take the whole load at once.
What about an elderly person who can’t go out and collect their package every time? why do you think they paid for delivery to THEIR HOUSE?
Why do they always have to throw that environmental angle in? This is not going to save the planet.
Amazon lockers are an old concept
Even more urgent to replace turnstiles with thick non-penetrable doors, to make theft of MTA services all but impossible, not to mention imposing exceedingly severe penalties for theft of transit services.
