Obama Says Path to Mideast Peace Challenging

obama11.jpg President Barack Obama says a Mideast peace solution remains elusive but he’s hoping to see progress in coming days and weeks.

Obama spoke as he sat down Monday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the path forward.

The president says all sides understand what the outlines of a peace deal would look like, but achieving it still will be challenging.

Abbas responded that he considers this a historic opportunity and he thanked Obama for economic and political support.

  1. It’s amazing how a U.S president
    Fashions a peace by supporting
the enemy of America’s best friend. by siding with this One Way Partner.

    How about putting some pressure?
    Boycotts? Nothing!

    Just gives Abbas the understanding
that its challenging. Time for Israel to seek some better friends other than the U.S.

  2. Actually its impossible since the Zionists will never agree to live under Muslim rule (even if the state is nominally secular, but controlled by Arabs even if it allows total autonomy for Jews including the right to a nuclear-equipped military), and the Palestinians will never agree to live under non-Muslim rule (no matter how benevolent that rule is). At present a quarter of the Kenesset is non-zionist (Hareidim have returned to being anti-zionist thanks to the efforts of Lapid and Bennett), so perhaps in another generation or two the demographics will switch and something might be worked out, once Israel ceases to be predominantly zionistic.

Obama probably can’t do any good, and probably can’t do much harm, but at least it keeps it busy.

  3. Obama should concentrate on Iran, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela etc. powder kegs in the world. He should leave Israel alone and not bully the Jewish people. The Arabs don’t want peace. They openly say they won’t even recognize a Jewish State. They won’t allow even a single Jew into a “Palestinian” state. I say we do the same with them.

  4. Frum-n-Fair: The United States has no influence with Iran and Syria. It is meddling in the Ukraine but whether the poorest country in Europe is part of the “EU” or allied with Russia isn’t very important to anyone except the people who live there. Venezuela is hardly a powder keg, and the US profits from the disruption there since it means American oil is worth more (not the US is no longer dependent on foreign oil). As most of the American Jews (who are the backbone of Obama’s party, and from whom he learns politics) believe that pressuring Israel to make concessions will be in their benefit (I didn’t say they were bright, just influential), he is acting reasonably. And given his skills at fixing health care and the economy, a foreign diversion definitely helps America domestically.

  5. Reply to #3 & #5 – it seems like you really share many interests with the Palestinian people. Did u ever consider moving to Palestine? You might love it over there! I mean why be miserable here commenting day and night on YWN when u can actually enjoy yourself over there!

  6. Anti-zionist? Who make up the greater part of the oleh chadash community? Who are building, buying, and populating some of the largest communities and cities in Eretz Yisroel? Who are sending their children there to learn one, two, and even three years, many of whom eventually marry and/or settle their? Anti-zionist? The Torah – observant community are the only zionists that remain. Arguably, they were always the only true zionists.

Anti-Jewish? Who are continually and consistently passing legislation aimed at making living a Torah life very difficult to live?
