Four people were just taken into custody in Williamsburg, and are likely the group responsible for terrorizing local residents the past two days. Sources tell YWN that on Tuesday afternoon, at least two people were randomly assaulted, and anti-Jewish slurs used during the assaults. One incident occurred on Hooper St and Marcy Ave, and another took place on Heyward Street and Harrison Ave. The NYPD Hate Crimes Unit investigated both assaults, and called them a hate crime. No perps were apprehended.
On Wednesday morning, Williamsburg Shomrim receiving a phone call that glass bottles were thrown at pedestrians at Marcy Avenue and Hooper St. Anti-Jewish slurs were also used. The NYPD responded quickly, and with the assistance of Shomrim, all four suspects were taken into police custody. They were taken to the 90th Precinct, where they are awaiting detectives from the Hate Crimes Unit.
Rabbi Abe Friedman, a community leader told YWN that he had nothing but praise for the NYPD, who responded swiftly, and did not waste anytime in declaring these crimes as hate crimes. He lauded Shomrim for assisting the NYPD in making the arrests.

Using Anti-Jewish Slurs for itself is Not a Hate Crime. Assaulting Randomly for itself is Not a Hate Crime & Not at the same level crime as an Assault. It’s Not so sure that using Anti Jewish Slurs while a ‘Random’ assault should be charged as ‘Hate’ crime. the charges will most probably be down played later in court as a serious crime.
