No sugar. No corn (maize). No potatoes. Nothing sweet except honey. No preservatives for anything.
And whatever you spend on food, contribute twice the amount to tsadakkah to reflect how food prices are so low today compared to 2000 years ago.
Also remember no refrigeration. Never buy more than can you eat immediately since it will spoil quickly.
And don’t forget exercise. No using cars, buses or trains. Don’t use any electric labor saving devices. Only the very rich could afford a horse drawn carriage or a liter carried (usually by slaves). Remember, never use the elevator or escalator.
Follow these rules, you will no longer be fat and out of shape – and will appreciate the advantages of great wealth that Ha-Shem has given us today.
April 20, 2023 4:59 pm at 4:59 pm #2182622GadolhadorahParticipantYou neglected to mention tofu and pea protein (aka Beyond Beef), two of the essential elements of the Gadol Diet.
April 20, 2023 4:59 pm at 4:59 pm #2182619AviraDeArahParticipantAkuperma, they used to preserve meat in salt, or in the snow
April 20, 2023 9:19 pm at 9:19 pm #2182640Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantMost chazal did not have snow to keep their meat most of the time.
Proof: meat is mentioned 2600 times in the Gemora, snow – only 94.
April 20, 2023 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #2182644☕️coffee addictParticipantAlso Chazal didn’t have corn because it’s a new world food
They didn’t have potatoes either
April 20, 2023 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #2182645☕️coffee addictParticipantAnd btw there were tannaim that were really fat
April 20, 2023 11:45 pm at 11:45 pm #2182676LostsparkParticipantBring back garum!
April 21, 2023 12:35 am at 12:35 am #2182683DontMindMeParticipantAlso remember, there were no antibiotics back then. So if you get a serious infection, well… you’ll really lose a lot of weight.
April 21, 2023 7:51 am at 7:51 am #2182712AviraDeArahParticipantAaq…. Why does the amount of times a word is used matter? They had snow, and they knew what it could do. But snow was not very common in that part of the world
April 21, 2023 9:32 am at 9:32 am #2182734akupermaParticipantThey had ice, but it was an extreme luxury to keep it through the summer (BTW, it was probably warmer during the time of Bayis Sheini than today). They could salt meat, however that had to be done before cooking and not as a way to deal with leftovers. They had peas but not soy (unless they visited China – it didn’t reach Europe or the Middle East until the time of the ahronim). And of course they lacked all the new world foods (no chocolate, no maize, no tomatoes, no potatoes, no quinoa).
Garum’s use as a condiment is restricted since it is a fish sauce.
April 21, 2023 1:22 pm at 1:22 pm #2182751@fakenewsParticipantPlease report back after you follow this diet for a couple years.
April 21, 2023 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #2182755Get-r-dunParticipantI almost eat like chazal, i just changed the lamed at the end with a ‘raish’
April 21, 2023 1:29 pm at 1:29 pm #2182763ZetruthParticipantWait, you need to read ha sefer ‘the body electric’, mamash it says that because we are surrunded by an excessive, unnatural electricity nowadays, if it’s the case then our metabolism cannot process sugar and carbs properly. That book is a jem!
April 22, 2023 10:15 pm at 10:15 pm #2182838Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipant> Why does the amount of times a word is used matter?
I just came up with a ridiculous argument, so you know how we feel sometimes.
April 23, 2023 7:42 pm at 7:42 pm #2183190ZetruthParticipantIn the tanach, when a word is repeated, it was for a reason, same in tehilim
April 23, 2023 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm #2183211Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantI do eat like chazal. Chazal were observing effects of different foods on health and ate accordingly. I am trying to do the same.
