Two separate incidents in the Five Towns have shaken the community and left some worried about walking the streets at night.
In the first incident, a group of boys walking through the streets of Cedarhurst on Friday night were approached by several cars, with the occupants exiting and launching an unprovoked fight, with at least one of the Jewish boys being shoved to the ground.
In a second incident, a man walking with his two daughters in Lawrence was approached by a man in a vehicle who pointed what appeared to be a gun (but turned out to be a screwdriver) at them, prompting them to run home and call the police.
Thus far, the first incident, though disturbing, has no indications of being an anti-Semitic hate crime; however, police are not ruling it out as a distinct possibility. Law enforcement officials note that no anti-Semitic slurs or statements were made by the group, and no arrests have yet been made.
The second incident, though terrifying, turned out to be nothing more than a miscommunication. Police were able to make contact with the man, who it turns out is deaf. It appears that his actions were a matter of miscommunication rather than animosity.

I understand you all need click bait to keep the show runnign but using “2 Violent Incidents…” as a headline when one of the incidents appears to be a deaf guy asking for directions is a bit over the top.

Indeed, very scary incidents; but the title, “Two Violent Incidents,” is inaccurate and fostering fear mongering. As the article itself noted, one incident was merely miscommunication with a deaf individual. Five Towns is a wonderful community, with excellent policing. More police presence, and perhaps an internal security force organized by concerned neighbors is a good idea. Yes, anti-semitism and hate crimes are up, but let’s have accurate reporting please.
