Channel 2 TV News correspondent questioned Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat as to why the capital must be locked down “over and over again for every cause”. Nussbaum cited the last visit to the capital by US President Barak Obama, as well as recent visits by other diplomats, repeatedly resulting in the closure of public transportation and access routes. Nussbaum questions why once again the “City is under siege, this time by the chareidim”.
Mayor Barkat responds:
First of all we are privileged to merit living in a democratic society and this includes the right to protest. Today it is the chareidim and that is fine for as long as it is within the confines of the law and with a police permit, which today’s event is.
Channel 2:
What do you think about their cause?
Mayor Barkat:
I prefer not to get into that. They have a right to protest as do others and that is what is taking place in the capital today and I call on Jerusalemites to exhibit patience and tolerance.

Inrteresting. I don’t remember or fimd they arutz shtayim having any problem with the gay pride protest numbering a couple hundred? Shutting down jerusalem. They didn’t term it under siege eother that the city main thoroughfares were closed. ….. talk about biased reporting….
barkat keeping it classy
he’ll make a good mk
The few hundred gays can make the secular government pay for the police which was an additional three million dollar overtime. But chareidim are being forced to pay the police for the security.
