Why does the apple logo have a bite in it to show its not a cherry if u could also bite cherries
January 18, 2023 10:25 am at 10:25 am #2157413yuda the maccabiParticipantI once heard in the name of Rabbi Eli Mansour that according to the midrash the main sin of eitz hadaas was loshon hara and today in the era of social media a person can spead lashon hara to thousands with the click of a botton (or a swipe on a screen) so when a person sees the bitten apple logo it can serve as a reminder of the eitz hadaas and he’ll watch what he writes
January 18, 2023 11:59 am at 11:59 am #2157467Yserbius123Participant@yuda-the-maccabi Why would an apple remind someone of the Eitzim in Gan Eden?
January 18, 2023 2:24 pm at 2:24 pm #2157534yeshivaguy45Participantyserbius-Some say the Eitz Hadaas was an apple tree
January 18, 2023 8:31 pm at 8:31 pm #2157567Yserbius123Participant@yeshivaguy45 Who are these people? Goyim?
January 18, 2023 8:31 pm at 8:31 pm #2157569Yserbius123ParticipantTo get off my sarcasm seat for a second, yes I’m well aware that Steve and Steve called their company “Apple” because it was “plucking the fruit of knowledge”. However, we have the Gemara which brings several pshatim as to what the fruit was and none of them are apples.
January 18, 2023 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #2157604Reb EliezerParticipantWhen you like something you have to bite into it so it indicates that it sells well.
January 18, 2023 8:34 pm at 8:34 pm #2157651midwesternerParticipantNot aware of any opinion in Chazal that says that the Etz Hadaas was an apple tree. I’ve seen it depicted as such in Goyishe and secular, non Orthodox artwork. But in a Torah source, not aware of any such thing.
January 18, 2023 9:48 pm at 9:48 pm #2157682Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantapparently apple was introduced from Latin bonum et malum – good and evil, where malum is also apple.
apple were popular in Europe and Greece, where it was used to start a conflict between idols (idolesses?) leading to Trojan war.
apples seem to be known in EY some time before David, but not that popular. There are tapuchim in Bereshis, not clear if those are actually apples.
January 19, 2023 2:31 pm at 2:31 pm #2157795Menachem ShmeiParticipantRegarding the fruit of the עץ הדעת, if I’m not mistaken, the opinions are:
Wheat
Grapes
Figs
Nuts
EsrogimP.S. Esrog can also be called תפוח
January 19, 2023 2:32 pm at 2:32 pm #2157844yeshivaguy45ParticipantI thought it was in the medrash that it was an apple tree. I’ll have to look into that more. Sorry
January 19, 2023 2:53 pm at 2:53 pm #2157828Happy new yearParticipantRashi in Parshas Toldos says the field which Hashem blessed (meaning Gan Eden) is the “Apple Field”.
Meaning, the field is of Apples, but the Tree itself was clearly not, according to Chazal. (Fig, Grape, Esrog, Wheat). The Zohar (first meal of Shabbos) calls it “Chaqal Tapuchin Qadishin” – Holy Apple FieldJanuary 19, 2023 4:36 pm at 4:36 pm #2157860yuda the maccabiParticipantI dont think the vort was specifically about an apple its just that the logo is of a fruit with a bite taken out of it (as in the forbidden fruit)
January 19, 2023 4:49 pm at 4:49 pm #2157886Reb EliezerParticipantAbout an esrug see what I wrote at https://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/esrug-forgiveness-for-the-first-sin
January 19, 2023 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #2157943Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantTapuach may be some other fruit
January 19, 2023 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #2157940LakewoodscoopParticipantIt was made with a bitten apple so all you guys can have what to discuss. I’ll go make a company and give you guys another topic to discuss. Don’t worry you won’t be bored.
January 20, 2023 11:38 am at 11:38 am #2158005MilhouseParticipantThere are no tapuchim in Bereishis. The first mention of “tapuach” is in Shir Hashirim. And this is used by some as evidence that Shir Hashirim was written quite late, and was not written by Shlomo Hamelech.
As for apples, they were not known in the middle east at the time of matan torah. Maybe not even when Shir Hashirim was written, since Tosfos says the “tapuach” there is an esrog.
