Senior police officials quoted by the daily Yisrael HaYom state that from all the investigations against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, the Olmert Tours case has progressed to the point that a criminal indictment is likely.
The case refers to allegations that the prime minister established a system by which he billed travel arrangements several times, collecting funds from non-profit organizations that paid for his travel in fundraising trips abroad, using the extra money to finance family travel.
Police report they have succeeded in collecting documents with Olmert’s signature that incriminate him in the travel fraud scheme. Olmert’s illegal efforts police report resulted in amassing $107,000 in funds for his own personal use.
Police are expected to inform the prime minister that they wish to question him once again before an indictment is handed down.
