I see there are a number of frum from all walks (litvish, chassidish, and modern) with He/Him or She/Her in their pronouns on their LinkedIn profile. I don’t understand why they want to associate with that group. They are essentially alienating their own (I disconnect from them and I’m assuming many others do as well).

Anyone have an explanation, or seen insane behavior similar?

    1. There really is nothing outrageous about a person having a “preferred pronoun” that reflects their actual gender.

    2. They probably are very naive (credit that to frum schooling) and don’t realize that believing one needs to (or can) prefer a pronoun is in fact a pledge of allegiance to a very anti-Torah political movement.

Many companies require staff to use pronouns in the sign off of their communications. It could be that these professionals are worried that if they don’t follow along, they won’t be hired.

I don’t think there’s an issur, because you’re not advocating for the pronoun culture and gender nonsense.

Yes very tragic, almost as tragic as not having Gibson guitars in frum bands

    I’ve seen similar insane behaviors…….

……getting worked up over stuff like this.

They’re probably oblivious people who accepted the nudge from LinkedIn to write their pronouns while completely not realizing the cultural significance of their actions.

Maybe if we taught better critical thinking skills this wouldn’t happen…

It must be that time of year when bored CR posters (who weren’t invited to their office Chanukah party) have too much time on their hands. Just about EVERY major Fortune 500 firm offers their employees the option of adding a preferred gender pronoun in their signature block. It is NOT required and totally voluntary. Many Linked-in users simply adopt the same contact information as in their professional email contact. While I wouldn’t expect a Rav/ Rosh yeshiva or most ehrliche CR balabatim to incorporate such preferred pronouns its no big deal if a frum yid clones his/her/(“they’s”)[professional work contacts into their LinkedIn profiles.

You can’t make they alphabet people feel special without letting them tell you they are Xim Xer They or any other form of insanity.

    Time for a privilege walk!

This pronoun thing is to normalize immoral behavior.

MDG: On a list of the top 10 “immoral” behaviors we are confronting in society today, having some clueless yid ask that we call him “they” is probably no. 77 or 78.

I think that what MDG means is that, at the end of the day, the whole purpose of this political movement, with all its details and hangups, is to legitimatize certain immoral behaviors in society. Not that those details themselves are intrinsically immoral.

In today’s professional world, this is what you have to do. The year is 2022 and not 1954 sadly.

You absolutely do not. If any employer makes you, I think you have grounds to sue.

“In today’s professional world, this [indicating your preferred pronoun] is what you HAVE to do…”

In what “professional world” do you operate?? I am not aware of any major law firm, investment or commercial bank, communications firm or indeed any Fortune 500 company that REQUIRES employees to select a preferred pronoun. Some encourage including such preference in their email signature blocks but could you share with us which major employer requires such a designation.

Just an assumption. I’ll be shocked if an employer can make this a requirement (although I won’t be surprised if a lawsuit like this makes the news).

Pretty sure it’s compelled speech under the 1st amendment

I don’t believe a private corporation is precluded from compelling their employees to speak whatever they’re instructed, or instructed not to, as the First Amendment isn’t applicable to private entities but rather only to government.

As far as I’m aware the first amendment protects you from government compelled speech not employer

its a bad assuption an employee can make almost anything hhe/she wants a requirement. unless it discriminates based on a “protected ” group so cant have you profess belief in yoshke that would discriminate based on religion(same for gender etc. Unless you argued that putting in pronouns was against your religion.

    #2154466

it is a cultural thing – when powerful people start putting their pronouns in signatures and bios, it creates pressure on the masses to follow to be liked by the boss, and then remaining ones stand out. One of my kids was asked what his pronoun is, and he replied “I do not have one”

AAQ: It takes a lot of courage, even with the anonymity of social media, to acknowledge that one of your kids is seeking to establish a gender preference and currently doesn’t want to self-identify with any particular pronoun. Alternatively, they might just feel there is no need to state the obvious, notwithstanding pressures to do so.
