Hundreds of members of the Yerushalmi faction took part in the motzei Shabbos Parshas Veyekel kenos in the Tamir Hall in Yerushalayim headed by HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach Shlita. The participants expressed their support for the party’s HaPeles ailing newspaper but the event focused on the new draft law and activities of the Shaked Committee.
The highlight of the night was when Rav Auerbach Shlita addressed the formulation of the new draft law, which he labeled “Gezeiras Shmad”, instructing the tzibur that the battle against the new law “must be uncompromising” and “until the death”.
“The state’s right to exist is from the Torah but when the Torah is harassed, the state no longer has a right to exist and no wonder we face such grave dangers”. The posek added this is a fight demanding tenacious determination, יהרג ובל יעבור, expressing his admiration for “the young flock that stands on guard”, and stressing repeatedly that there cannot be any compromise and the battle must be till the death. “We need to strengthen limud Torah and instill in ourselves that this is the basis for our very existence against the hard gezeiros literally until the death.” The rav stressed the need to be cautious when it comes to the kovod of talmidei chachamim.
Speaking after Rav Auerbach was Rav Shmuel Aryeh Levine of the Chafetz chaim community in Argentina, who expounded on the rav’s words and the need to remain firm and uncompromising.
And finally, HaGaon Rav Baruch Shmuel Deutsch addressed the tzibur and spoke of the “prophetic words of HaGaon HaRav Menachem Mann Shach ZT”L who warned the day would come upon which they will try to induct all bnei yeshivos and we will have to know that we will have to be moser nefesh even if there are fatalities”.
“Their goal is not to induct the chareidim into the military but to make them secular!” exclaimed Rav Deutsch. He stated the army does not need the additional manpower and it is clear this is a shmad campaign aimed at the chareidi tzibur.
