The Republican National Committee raised almost $8 million dollars in the first month of the year, while its Democratic rival brought in $6.6 million.
That’s what the parties announced Thursday.
The RNC has about $10 million in the bank, and the Democratic National Committee has $5.7 million. The RNC is debt free, while the DNC continues to carry almost $16 million in red ink.
Both parties’ central committees are trying to use these next few months to recover. The RNC is investing heavily in building voter databases to find potential supporters after losing back-to-back presidential races to tech-savvy Democrats. The Democrats, meanwhile, are trying to pay down some of the debt they ran up to help President Barack Obama win a second term in the White House.
