Mayor Bill de Blasio is outlining his plan to make New York streets safer for pedestrians and drivers.
The mayor said Tuesday that he wants to dramatically cut traffic-related deaths in the nation’s largest city.
Last year there were almost as many traffic fatalities as homicides.
De Blasio, a Democrat, wants to lower the citywide speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph. He also wants to expand the use of speed and red light cameras.
Both of those steps require approval from the State Legislature.
De Blasio also plans to boost the number of police officers devoted to traffic safety and instruct them to crack down on speeding and other traffic violations.
He also urged drivers to take more care, saying “our lives in each other’s hands.”

I guess DeBlasio found a way to raise funds for his pre K (after Coumo rejected his plan). He’s expanding the GOTCHA program that was very successful during the Bl$$mberg administration. Instead of “taxing the rich”, he will in essence, be taxing the poor! Way to go DeBlasio!
The police should target the bike riders and deliverymen on the electric scooters who always demonstrate a flagrant disregard for traffic law. A one way street means 1 way and a stop sign or red light means stop for them too.
If greenfield is so worried about public safety especially in BP (the home of chassidish nascar driving) why hasn’t he come out to support this instead of $250 snow fines?
