On Sunday, February 16, over 160 runners for Team HASC are scheduled to complete the Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Half Marathon. Team HASC is a growing group of CAMP HASC counselors, campers, medical staff, and specialty staff, along with camper’s parents and friends who unite together to continue developing CAMP HASC into the magical place it is. Team HASC raises funds by coordinating fundraisers to make Camp HASC dreams a reality. Therefore, we are running on behalf of the special campers of Camp HASC, for the place we all speak of as “Heaven On Earth”.
Through the efforts of our runners and supporters, the upcoming marathon is our most prominent fundraiser of the year. Team HASC can proudly say that we have raised over $470,000 as we approach the upcoming race. With themoney raised, we have some fabulous projects in mind to help improve camp and to make it an even better place for the campers to learn, grow, and conquer goals.
For the past few months each runner, fundraiser, camper, and staff member have worked effortlessly to help achieve our goal of raising those necessary funds for our dear campers of Camp HASC. Never in our wildest dreams did we think a little snow could possibly prevent us from running for all that we believe in. We are a group of individuals who work together to achieve the unimaginable for our campers; 8 weeks where each camper’s disabilities become their abilities.
It is at this point where we, as a team, turn to you for help. Our flights have been cancelled. It is no longer safe to drive. We are doing all that we can to ensure that this amazing weekend occurs as scheduled. Months of preparation have gone into this weekend which campers, staff members, friends and family members wait all year for. However, we are running out of options and ideas. Our last hope right now is to charter a plane on Friday morning to make sure that our dreams become a reality. If anyone has the ability to help in any possible, big or small, please contact [email protected]. The objective of Team HASC is to help continue making Camp HASC the magical place that we all speak of through the funds raised.

All Yeshiva World readers should go the the HASC website and the the remarkable videos of Camp HASC, and make a contribution to the camp.
This is really an amazing project, and it’s really so wonderful that so much money is raised for HASC. Are sponsors of the runners threatening to not donate if the runners don’t run? Are they seriously considering chartering a plane? Maybe they can save the money for a chartered plane and donate that to HASC. The donors will probably understand that the runners can’t run, and will donate anyway. I imagine everyone will be reimbursed for cancelled flight, but HASC will still benefit tremendously from all of the hard work put in until now. It will be terribly disappointing for all of those who have planned this weekend for so long, but I don’t see how HASC will lose out unless another round of donors step in. Can someone shed some additional light?
Its really amazing that the participants of Team HASC were able to raise so much money. Although we don’t have a flight yet I will keep my head raised high and walk around like a champion. I know that even though I didn’t cross the finish line i did help so many people by raising the money that I am a champion.
I would also like to thank all the heads of Camp/Team HASC fr all the hard work they did in past 6 months organizing the marathon and esipsacilly
*^ continuing for above .
Especially the work over the past 36 hours where they have worked all 36 hours. Thank you so much to very one here and HASC you guys are my family !!
M,
I am not part of Team HASC, but it is my understanding (someone can correct me if I’m wrong) that although the donors aren’t backing out, many of the HASC campers were planning to join the Team for this event. The marathon and the entire weekend provide a huge sense of accomplishment and camaraderie for everyone involved, but especially for these kids.
I really hope they work something out!
Kol hakavod to everyone involved in this amazing endeavor!
ellmtree — thank you very much for clarifying this, something I didn’t think about. I genuinely hope that all of the runners and campers will be able to make it there safely for this truly wonderful event. And if I can copy your words — Kol hakavod to everyone involved in this amazing endeavor!
