Justice Minister Livni Pleased with Court’s Ruling Halting Funding For Yeshivos

ponJustice Minister Tzipi Livni expressed delight over the Supreme Court ruling halting funding for yeshivos.

While Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett felt the court’s ruling will only make the work of the Shaked Committee more difficult, Livni sees things a bit differently. The head of The Movement party said “The court’s decision symbolizes the true struggle in Israel today regarding the authority of the State of Israel. We must decide between equality and Halacha, between the Supreme Court as the interpreter of values or the narrow strict interpretation of the rabbonim and Halacha. I choose law and constitutional values and thus defend the Supreme Court as the guardian of their role.”

“The High Court will be the first to protest minority rights including the chareidim but will also be the first to prevent distortion and giving permission to evade the law and the continued inequality” she concluded.

  1. It is the final better between Halacha and the Law of the State – between the Rule of Ha-Shem and the Medinah. Those who wanted to waffle, sit on the fence, play both sides of the street, equivocate, etc. – have to decide. The question about to be asked is Who is for Ha-Shem, and who is against.

P.S. Unless of course that Likud and Bayit Yehudi get cold feet, being leading equivocaters in the past, and pass a Basic law to either end conscription, or less likely, allow conscientious objection or religious or moral grounds.

  2. I cannot possible imagine being either one of these two. They say these things publicly, too. They were so pleased with themselves. Really? What ill placed fortitude.

  3. Maybe then the “Religious Zionists” will finally realize and admit that a pig cannot be koshered no matter how much you pretend otherwise.
