Justice Department officials are trying to rectify a big no-no they made during the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago last week, after Trump accused them of stealing his passports.
“Wow! In the raid by the FBI of Mar-a-Lago, they stole my three Passports (one expired), along with everything else,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This is an assault on a political opponent at a level never seen before in our Country. Third World!”
In response, Democratic Rep. Eric Swallwell wrote on Twitter that “A Diplomatic Passport does not belong to Donald Trump. It belongs to the Government. Donald Trump is not in Government.” A DOJ official also denied that his passports were taken, only to backtrack on that claim.
Jay Bratt, chief of the DOJ’s counterintelligence and export control section, on Monday offered to return the passports.
“We have learned that the filter agents seized three passports belonging to President Trump, two expired and one being his active diplomatic passport,” Bratt wrote in an email that was publicly revealed by Save America PAC communications director Taylor Budowich.
“We are returning them,” the email continued, “and they will be ready for pickup at WFO at 2 pm today. I am traveling, but you can coordinate further.”

The FBI admits that in the normal process of going through boxes etc, that they found passports, and immediately informed one of his attorneys and said they would be returned. Nothing nefarious in the least.
Not shocking at all. Trump is a man of truth. It’s just the media portrays him as a liar. If the man said that they took his passports, then they took his passports !!
If you think these accusations, and them Framing his is over.. it only has just begun. They are petrified for him to run in 2024
And our Xpresidents lawyers lied. In the mean time he’s gotten his passports back and is free to go golfing in the UK.

There was no mistake. They took everything they could find, whether it was in the warrant’s scope or not.
But Trump’s claim that they “stole” the passports is clearly garbage. All US passports are US government property, so it’s impossible for the government to “steal” them. You can’t steal your own property.

They did not seize boxes, they packed boxes with documents that they were seizing. They did seize his Passports and offering to return them does not absolve them of a crime.
Yes, I’m as shocked as when the rogue employee at twitter “accidently” deleted Trumps account back then, or any other number of innocent “mistakes”, wiretaps, or Carney joking about how he got away with improper and allegedly unethical methods. The amount of innocent mistakes and such that the commentors of this site will excuse could fill a talmud sized shelf.
Diplomatic passports are NOT personal property. They can be issued and revoked by the government without having to provide any reason. Trump hasn’t left the U.S. in 18 months and his only planned travel is a rumored golfing outing to his course in Scotland later this month. Former Presidents retain a diplomatic passport as a courtesy but it is NOT required. I’m sure the residents of Scotland were saddened to learn of the return of his passports.
