August 10, 2022 4:04 pm at 4:04 pm #2113948☕️coffee addictParticipantWhat are road trip minyanim?
August 10, 2022 4:05 pm at 4:05 pm #2113967GadolhadorahParticipantIt depends on the road you are taking…..
Godaven….Com is usually the best place to start your search. I find it the most reliable and frequently updated although calling ahead is a good idea if there is a phone contact listed. There are still some Covid era changes in effectAugust 11, 2022 8:32 am at 8:32 am #2114189commonsaychelParticipantGodaven dot com and look up temp. minyonim, there are also pop up minyanim in every major tourst area, I davened in pop up minyam in Banff, Yellowstone, Horseshoe bend, Bryce, Great Smokies amongest others
August 11, 2022 1:41 pm at 1:41 pm #2114285GadolhadorahParticipantCS is correct, on pop-ups. We have seen notes tacked on to the bulletin boards outside of some Ranger Stations and Visitors Centers at national parks advertising pop-up minyanim. There is frum life outside of the NYS Thruway rest area in Sloatsburg
August 11, 2022 1:41 pm at 1:41 pm #2114318Shimon NodelParticipantInstead of driving (literally) your family crazy looking for a fictitious minyan, why not open a shulchan archive? You’re only required to travel up to a certain distance to find a minyan. If there are no jews in your area, then why not fly to catch a minyan?
August 11, 2022 10:41 pm at 10:41 pm #2114508GadolhadorahParticipant“If there are no jews in your area, then why not fly to catch a minyan?”
Because some of us don’t have chassidim offering to charter private jets to fly us somewhere to daven b’tzibur while on vacation
vAugust 12, 2022 8:09 am at 8:09 am #2114550commonsaychelParticipant@shimon, according to your post, you live in Northern Israel so minyan should not be an issue for you, there are over 40 temp minyanim posted in godaven, and 100s more the dont, with a little advance planning davening should not be an issue, in fact I daven viskin on the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia watching the sun rise over the Atlantic and the sunset over the Pacific on the Santa Monica Pier.
[two seperate vacations to spare any trollish comments]August 12, 2022 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm #2114598Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantI sometimes have a minyan near me, 10 minutes by boat.. are there any kulos allowing getting there on shabbos!? A non jew rowing? Having food posted on the other side before shabbos?
August 13, 2022 10:31 pm at 10:31 pm #2114772Shimon NodelParticipant@commonsaychel I don’t disagree at all with advanced planning. I was specifically replying to the op who asked about road trips. He didn’t mention a set destination such as Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia.
Aaq, according to the Rambam you would be allowed to travel by boat on a river on shabbos. That was a major conflict between him and the rosh yeshiva in Bavel of that time.
August 14, 2022 10:19 am at 10:19 am #2114938Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantShimon, I don’t think this includes embarking, does it? Going to maariv and staying there is not the solution I am looking for. On the kulah side, I see that “for the purpose of a mitzva” may extend to doing business and seeing a friend in some cases.
