With as much as 13 inches of snow in some parts of the New York metropolitan area, authorities are cautioning that road conditions could be treacherous for the morning commute.
The National Weather Service says black ice is possible on some roads.
It says the storm will move offshore on Wednesday. However, a winter storm warning remains in effect for Long Island until 9 a.m.
Wind gusts of 35-40 mph are expected to diminish by afternoon. But wind chills will remain below zero throughout the day.
The cold will continue into Thursday, with wind chills rising only to 10 degrees.
