Demolition Order for Elad Shul

cThe Levyat Chen Shul located at the corner of Yonatan ben Uziel and Pinchas ben Yair Streets in Elad was set up a year ago. The mispallalim are followers of Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef’s ZT”L, attending the kehilla established eight years ago. As the years passed the need to expand with an ezras noshim.

Shul Rav Rabbi Moshe Sharon turned to Elad City Hall, Mayor Yisrael Porush, seeking a permit to expand the shul. The plans were discussed and the official approval was given but on Tuesday morning, 20 Shevat 5774, the city engineer issued a demolition order for the expansion. The rav told Kikar Shabbat that “80% of the city’s shuls are built on land that was not authorized for a shul and suddenly we are the problem”.

The rav says “it is simply unbelievable. I met with Porush, who approved the ezras noshim and now he sends a tractor to destroy the very structure he personally approved and sent the city engineer to do the work.”

Local Shas leader Tzuriel Krisfel managed to talk a deal and received assurances that the structure would not be demolished in the next 48 hours, buying some time.

When asked to comment, City Hall and the mayor’s office deny ever approving the building of the ezras noshim.

  1. Why do shuls always have to have monkey business, why can’t they just build in a legal way.

Shouldn’t our shuls and batei midrash be an example of how to behave and not of breaking the law and making it right afterwards?

  2. Where are all the shouts of “anti-Semite” and “He must hate Frum Yidden”???

Oh, wait – this is a Chareidi mayor, so he must have good intentions. Unlike everyone else, whose every waking moment is spent trying to figure out how to “get” the Chareidim, right?
