PM Netanyahu Meets with Jordan’s King Abdullah Unexpectedly


4Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Thursday, Tu B’Shevat 5774 made an unplanned visit to Jordan where he met with King Abdullah II. Jordan’s Petra new agency reports the two met to discuss developments in diplomatic efforts between Israel and the PA (Palestinian Authority).

King Abdullah advised Prime Minister Netanyahu to take advantage of the peace-making efforts by US Secretary of State John Kerry, and that to bring stability and long-lasting peace to the region an agreement implementing the two-state solution must be reached. Abdullah told the prime minister he is confident the PA wishes to live aside Israel in peace.

The statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the meeting took place, stating the prime minister briefed the Jordanian leader on the status of talks with the PA. The Prime Minister emphasized that Israel places a premium on security arrangements, including Jordan’s interests, in any future agreement that will take into consideration the peace treaty between Jordan and Israel, signed 20 years ago.

The Prime Minister and the king discussed an array of economic cooperation between both countries in a number of fields as well as other regional matters.
