At NYC Symposium, NYPD Commissioner Stresses Community Partnerships

bratNYPD Commissioner William Bratton says working collaboratively with community groups, local businesses and residents will create trust in the police department and keep crime low.

Bratton made his remarks Wednesday at the Ford Foundation in Manhattan at an event sponsored by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, or LISC.

LISC is the nation’s largest community development group and funds housing and community safety initiatives throughout the country.

Bratton said he partnered with LISC on a community safety initiative in Brooklyn during his first stint as commissioner in 1994.

He said he’ll focus resources on the small number of people committing the majority of crimes.

Attorney General Eric Holder, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and police chiefs from New Haven, Conn., and Milwaukee, Wis., also spoke.
