AG Mazuz; It’s Not My Job to Oust Olmert

Responding to mounting calls to act to oust Prime Minister Ehud Olmert from office, State Attorney General Menachem Mazuz stated that he has no intentions of declaring the prime minister incapacitated for the purpose of unseating him. Mazuz explained it is not his job to oust or appoint the prime minister.

Mazuz on Sunday made his comments during an address to a Jerusalem conference addressing corruption. He told participants that the attorney general and the judicial system are not responsible for ousting the prime minister, but this task falls on the political system.

Mazuz rejected claims by the prime minister’s attorney that statements released by police in the case have harmed Olmert’s case, stating that when a senior official is under investigation, public statements are made, and they are indeed necessary.

  1. For some reason, this guy did think it was his job to tell R’ Metzger to leave his post, despite being accused of nothing as compared to Olmert.
