Slashing of Brigade Commander’s Tires Marks Another Red Line that was Crossed

bibnThe increased frequency of so-called price tag attacks is bound to have an impact. A recent incident that has elicited outrage from Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon occurred last week in Shomron, when Shomron Brigade Commander Colonel Yoav Yarom visited Yishuv Yitzhar. The officer reports his visit was motivated by a desire to seek to improve relations with area residents. While he was meeting with community officials, two tires on his vehicle were punctured. Yitzhar spokesman Uri Tubi denounced the act.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu condemned the incident and the defense minister spoke of the need for a swift and decisive response. Ya’alon stated that from his perspective, price tag attacks are acts of terror and he will react to them accordingly.

  1. the settlers have gone from being the biggest supporters of the Israeli government to the biggest opponents since the fruitless Gaza pull out.

They are frightened of another government pull out from the Judia-Samaria areas where they have been living for years.

They have a real fear and the government has done nothing policy-wise to allay their fear; rather just the opposite: talking to the villain Abass who want all communities uprooted from ‘his area’.

If the government were stronger they would tell Abbass that the land he lives on is part of Israel and he (Abbass) should get off. Then we could begin negotiations in earnest and have the ‘settlers’ support too.

  2. Of course there are ways to not only stop such actions, but to also show leadership and make “painful concession, even for peace between brothers”. For example, demolish the homes of those who are obsessing only on the reactions of Jews to the treatment they receive, but not the causes. Then give that land to the beloved muslims. E.g. the homes of Bibi, Ya’alom, Livni, Tommy Lapid HaKattan, et al. This is the kind of leadership by example that is badly needed in Israel.
