living in Israel in a tiny dirah in ganei geulah, desperately looking for something bigger but prices are too high over here(it costs about 9000 shekels a month for a 2 bedroom in ganai geula)
does anyone have any ideas of any dirah, or where i can find a cheap dirah?
i am also thinking of new areas, but since we are more chasidish we wouldn’t have an oilam anywhere outside of the rommema neighborhood, does anyone have any ideas of any new area that an oilam who fit our profile are moving to? what do people think about moving to a new area with an oilam?

June 24, 2022 12:40 pm at 12:40 pm #2100041chaim_baruchParticipantHave you looked outside Yerushalayim? Beit Shemesh, or one the “Hareidi” yeshuvim? Beitar, Kiryat Sefer, Tel Tzion, etc. should be significantly cheaper.
June 24, 2022 1:21 pm at 1:21 pm #2100073ujmParticipantAre you willing to move to the other side of the Green Line?
June 24, 2022 3:58 pm at 3:58 pm #2100089Politically IncorrectParticipantI second beitar, especially beis. Alef is mostly very frum, yeshivish people, with a nice amount of chassidim in the mix, but beis is apparently much more chassidish. It is a beautiful place to live and raise your children.
June 24, 2022 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm #2100093TRUEBTParticipantYou can look over here for RBS Gimmel and Daled:
en+rentbetshemesh+comJune 24, 2022 5:59 pm at 5:59 pm #2100144Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantI heard Ramallah is still affordable, albeit gentrifying… I saw an article saying that locals complain that some Israeli Arabs are buying apartments on a cheap to accommodate their kids who also attend Rammalah U.
June 24, 2022 6:25 pm at 6:25 pm #2100159ujmParticipantSouthern Lebanon and Jordan are both parts of Eretz Yisroel with inexpensive housing.

Yup, but still a bit difficult to find a minyan, mikvah or chassideshe hashgacha.

June 26, 2022 1:41 am at 1:41 am #2100278GadolHadofiParticipantJoseph,
Why don’t you start a new community in Southern Lebanon and Jordan? The natives would love to have you!
June 26, 2022 2:08 am at 2:08 am #2100290ujmParticipantDofi: We Jews ARE the natives of ALL parts of Eretz Yisroel, despite you so-called “Palestinians” claims to be the natives.
edit
June 28, 2022 7:58 am at 7:58 am #2100866YsiegelParticipantAlso consider Northern Israel…
Haifa has lots of Chassidisher neighborhoods, there’s also Kiryat Shmuel around Krayot area.
There’s Chatzor, too, and Tzfas…depends a lot on work as well, worth looking into relevant job opportunities in various places, but all in all the above northern towns are generally much much cheaper. (you can probably find a nice 3 bedroom apartment in Kiryat Shmuel for around 4500)June 28, 2022 8:57 am at 8:57 am #2100939commonsaychelParticipantthe Negev, they are give houses away there
June 28, 2022 9:36 am at 9:36 am #2100959s1234567Participantthanks
but the communities suggested here are not my style and too Israeli
June 28, 2022 11:56 am at 11:56 am #2101012GadolhadorahParticipantWhat is your style and what do you mean by “too Israeli”?? would you prefer a Bedouin tent close to Chevron? You talk about a “cheap dirah”. Lots of those available in older buildings in both frum areas of Jerushalayinm and outer ring suburbs., some of which are firetraps with dangerous wiring, propane stoves, no a/c and dark but what you pay for is what you get.
June 28, 2022 1:04 pm at 1:04 pm #2101059s1234567Participantby cheap i mean 6000 shekels(1800 dollars)
2 bedroom diras where i live go for 9000 shekel (2500 – 3000 dollars)
June 28, 2022 1:04 pm at 1:04 pm #2101061takahmamashParticipant“the Negev, they are give houses away there”
Where are “they” giving away houses in the Negev? I live in the Negev, and I haven’t seen or heard of any houses being given away down here.“but the communities suggested here are not my style and too Israeli”
This is Israel – what do you expect the communities to be here? If you want to live here, you learn to deal with it and become Israeli.June 28, 2022 3:24 pm at 3:24 pm #2101127NechomahParticipantYou obviously don’t know Givat Ze’ev. In the “new” area – 12 years old is still considered new – there are a lot of English-speaking people, probably 1/3 of the area, plus there is a whole Belz community, so plenty of chassidim. Don’t rule it out.
June 28, 2022 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #2101168s1234567Participanttakahmamash
somehow where i live in ganei geula people manage to live a non Israeli life (even people that have been here for 15 plus years) so obviously you can stay European, there is a number of moisdos, rabonim, shuls, groups that cater specifically to this oilam, what i want to know is if it exists outside this area
Nechomah
i know there is a chasidish oilam in givat zeev, but its more israeli, and besides for the fact that belz is more of a tight knit kehila (and i say this as someone who has belzer friends)when i say chasidish i mean chutznik chasidish similar to the oilam in romema
June 28, 2022 7:51 pm at 7:51 pm #2101177GadolhadorahParticipantChutznik chassidish as in willingness to hold a PT job while learning?? Employment opportunities vary substantially across the various locations suggested above.
June 29, 2022 8:10 am at 8:10 am #2101314OrechDinParticipantHow about Baltimore or Lakewood? Not very Israeli and they cater to the chutznik lifestyle.
What’s the point of living in Israel if you’re afraid of the Israelis?
Our first apartment in Yerushalayim was 6000 NIS, 2 bedrooms and brand new. But in Baka… 8 years ago.
We just got a new apartment in Arnona. There is a dirah available downstairs, 3 bedrooms and very high quality, but I don’t think we’re you’re crowd.
Hatzlacha.June 29, 2022 9:25 am at 9:25 am #2101338GadolhadorahParticipantI think OD has it right. If you want to be true to your chutznik hashkafah, go chutz. Baltimore, Lakewood or Aspen.
