Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch would like to extend our heartfelt wishes for a Refuah Shelaimah to the Mayor of Lakewood, Mayor Menashe Miller, who is currently in the hospital after slipping on the ice resulted from today’s sudden and treacherous storm.
Mayor Miller was injured in the line of duty, so to speak, as he spent his day helping out some of the many, many Lakewood residents in need of assistance, and is one of many casualties of today’s inclement weather.
The freezing rain that descended this morning turned to ice upon impact, turning the streets and sidewalks of Lakewood into a veritable skating rink and posing a terrifying danger to drivers and pedestrians.
Mayor Miller didn’t cease from his efforts to keep Lakewood safe, communicating with emergency agencies and ensuring that proper efforts were being made to curb the tide of casualties. In fact, says an LCSW coordinator, Mayor Miller was in constant contact with their dispatch center, and only afterward did dispatchers realize he was doing so from an ambulance stretcher, and subsequently, his hospital bed, proving his true dedication and devotion to the community.
The storm caught the town completely by surprise and caused an unprecedented number of incidents, as the local police department and emergency agencies were overwhelmed by the inordinate call volume.
LCSW praises the various organizations in town, including the LPD, Hatzalah, Chaverim, LCSW, and LFA, for working together seamlessly to help the community through a difficult morning and gives special thanks to Police Chief Rob Lawson, OEM coordinator, and Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein, Police Commissioner as well as Liaison to Emergency Services, for standing at the helm of the operation and keeping Lakewood safe.
A speedy recovery to our dedicated mayor and a safe and happy Shabbos to all!
