Cuomo: Ray Kelly To Advise On Security School

kelGov. Andrew Cuomo says he’s recruited New York City’s former top cop to be a special adviser to establish the nation’s first college dedicated to homeland security.

In his State of the State address Wednesday, Cuomo said Raymond Kelly would lend his expertise to the new State University of New York venture.

The plan calls for the college to offer degrees and certificates in fields like emergency preparedness, homeland security and cybersecurity.

Kelly served as police commissioner during all three terms of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg. In that time, he devoted more manpower and resources to counterterrorism in response to the Sept. 11 attacks and other threats, but drew criticism for the NYPD’s surveillance of Muslims.

Attempts to reach Kelly for comment were not immediately successful.
