The frum community in Petach Tikvah was plunged into mourning on Monday evening upon hearing the news of the petirah of Reb Shmuel Katzenelbogen, z’l, at the age of 30.
The niftar was seriously injured last Tuesday while riding an electric scooter after being hit by a car. The accident reportedly occurred when a dog began chasing him and he tried to escape but ended up in the car’s path instead.
He suffered a severe head injury in the accident and has been sedated and ventilated since then. On Monday, his condition deteriorated and he was niftar, leaving behind a wife and three small children, his parents, and siblings.
Sadly, another fatality involving an electric scooter occurred in Petach Tikvah on Monday evening, when a 13-year-old boy riding an electric scooter was killed after he was hit by a car.
The police are carrying out an investigation of the circumstances of the accident. Initial reports indicate that the boy was hit by a car after he crossed a street at a red light.
Shortly before the accident, a man was injured by a car while riding an electric scooter in Be’er Sheva.
A tzedaka fund has been launched for anyone interested in assisting the niftar’s family.

Those lethal killing devices should be banned. It’s mind boggling why parents and mechanchim are not putting their feet down and strictly enforce a total van on these crazy machines from hiverviards scooters and anything that is electric and not enforced by DMV

May the family be נתנחם.
These things are amazingly dangerous. They go very fast. The riders are usually not wearing helmets for protection. They are dangerous for the rider’s and the rest of society too.. Whenever I visit Borough Park I’m frightened about getting hit by one. They’re on the sidewalks, they’re in the street. They come at you from all directions usually at great speed. The riders are not insured either and there are no regulations that govern them. They are very dangerous and only growing in numbers. ה’ ירחם
These electric scooters are amazing and can be really useful. You just have to know how to handle them and be EXTREMELY Careful!
So which country is going to start putting a registration plate and require licensing and insurance of the riders ? Can’t see that ever happening!
Unfortunately I don’t see these electric scooters going away any time soon, but at minimum they should have their own lane. As it stands they are a risk to pedestrians and themselves.
These lethal machines are a scourge upon the land. Beit Shemesh municipality, in their infinite brilliance, has dumped them all over the city. The good news is, they are virtually useless here as they can’t handle the hills!
Don’t our elected leaders think before they waste our money? What about helmets for all scooter & electric bike riders? Pass a law making wearing helmets mandatory.
