It appears that after the launching of the 5 NIS cup of coffee by Tel Aviv’s Cofix, the same will be available in Yerushalayim, albeit under a different name.
In about two week’s time, the Jerusalem coffee scene will change dramatically as three partners hope to open the flagship store of their new inexpensive coffee chain on Ben-Yehuda Street. “Coffees” promises the same 5 NIS cup of coffee. The partners worked in Cofix with an understanding they would be eligible to open a franchise store. When they realized this was not to be, they left and decided to launch their own operation.
According to a Mynet report, the first store will open its doors on January 19, 2014 on Ben-Yehuda Street. Partners Amir Amsellem (32), a resident of Old Katamon and Moshe Mizrachi (34) of Har Homa are independent businessmen. Lilach Arzi (31) is a Ramat Gan restaurateur. The three decided to team up and compete with Cofix. They hope they will be able to begin opening franchises around the country and quickly become a nationwide chain selling 5 NIS cups of coffee.
When asked how they will be able to sustain themselves selling coffee so inexpensively, they explain they rented a very small place, just large enough to accommodate the staff. Arzi was the manager of the first Cofix store in Tel Aviv and she is confident that with her experience there, they can make it work in Yerushalayim. The others worked in Cofix too.
The three add the store will have a mehadrin kashrus and offer other items on the menu other than coffee – such as sandwiches, muffins, health bars, ice cream and ice coffee. They are serious about maintaining the 5 NIS price for items on the menu.
