The most popular Jewish names in the US have been revealed for newborns in 2021, with some very popular names have been revealed in the findings recently. Of course, there may have been some that would have liked to have a little wager and gamble on what those names would have been using sites like Wishcasinos.com and there may have been a few winners, too!
As we know, 2021 was a little bit of a difficult year for many, and that even had an impact on the birth rate in the US as these figures had dropped. Nonetheless, babies were still being born, and a number of Jewish names were still being used.
In fact, there were some names that had started to become more popular among parents among both boys and girls, with names including Eliam (“God is my nation”) and Azriel, Yaakov, and Avi.
Noah had become popular as a girl’s name despite being extremely well-liked as a boy’s name, whilst Dalia, Noa, Daphne, and Elisa also made positive strides in the rankings.
Unfortunately, for every popular name, there were some Jewish names that appeared to become less popular in 2021. Meir and Zev were boys’ names that were less frequently chosen, whilst Corrine and Abby were girls’ names that did not appear to appeal to parents last year, either. Interestingly, there were also more Jewish boys’ names given out this year than there were girls’ names.
Let’s take a look at the top five Jewish boys’ names in the U.S., and the top five girls’ names to have been used in 2021.
Boys names
Ranking at the top of the list – and far from a surprise in truth – Noah continues to be the most popular Jewish name for a boy. However, it does appear to be dwindling in popularity as there could be a handful of reasons why.
Elijah was the next name on the list and like Noah, it is one of the consistently chosen Jewish names. It has been very popular as a first name for boys in the U.S. opting for it. Even those who are not Jewish choose it semi-regularly.
Completing the list are Benjamin, Levi, and Daniel. Again, three rather common names and none really being too much of a surprise. It should be added that Michael, Ethan, Samuel, Jacob, Asher, Ezra, Gabriel, Isaac, Elias, and Josiah were each in the top 50 names in the U.S. last year, too.
Girls names
So, what were the top girls’ names in the U.S. to come from Jewish? Again, there are a few that are rather popular, whilst there are a couple that may not have instantly been expected to appear on the list.
The most popular of the names in 2021 was Ella. In Hebrew, it means “goddess”, therefore it is a name that is unlikely to ever go anywhere any time soon. She is joined by Abigail in second, which means “God’s joy”, whilst Hannah came third. In Hebrew, it means “compassionate” or “graceful”, thus perhaps echoing the feeling around the world in 2021.
Leah and Eliana rounded off the top five girls’ names in the U.S. last year.
It will be interesting to see what names are the most popular this year…
