Committeeman Miller was sworn in as the 2014 Mayor of Lakewood just before Noon during the annual reorganization meeting Wednesday. Lakewood’s 2013 Mayor, Albert Akerman, was sworn in as the Deputy Mayor. Conducting the ceremonies was State Senator Robert Singer.
After sitting down in the Deputy Mayor’s seat, Akerman thanked the community for their support, and said he had “one of the most amazing years in my life.”
Following the swearing in ceremonies – which was attended by about one hundred people, the Committeemen, and the Mayor, outlined the projects they intend to work on for the coming year.
Committeeman Meir Lichtnstien, who serves as the liaison to the Townships’s Emergency Services, announced some of the items on his agenda he would like to see accomplished in 2014. The items include improving the Township’s OEM organization, the Communications Systems, the Downtown, street lights around town, pedestrian safety as well as resolving the ongoing Tent City issues. The Committeeman also intends on improving the Township’s emergency alert system which he founded.
Mayor Miller, after thanking Akerman for a job well done, said he would like to work on and support the various projects Deputy Mayor Akerman began as Mayor, and will assist him in completing the job.
Some of the projects Deputy Mayor Akerman started as Mayor, included resolving the Tent City issue, as well as public busing.
