The rabbonim shlita of the Shas Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael are planning to convene on Wednesday, erev Rosh Chodesh Shevat 5774. The main item on the agenda is the chareidi draft law. The council was planning to meet earlier but Rabbi David Yosef was abroad so the meeting was pushed off to permit him to attend.

The second item on the agenda is Ministry of Education involvement in Shas affiliated schools, a most relevant topic since Shas signed a deal agreeing to accept the ministry’s curriculum in its Mayan Chinuch network. According to the agreement signed by Shas officials, the education network will accept the ministry’s curriculum regarding the secular subjects, thereby qualifying its schools for full state aid.

The meeting of the rabbonim will mark the first time the council convenes since the petira of Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L.
