New York City Police say an armed iPhone thief was shot twice by police and died from chest wounds.
Police said the shooting occurred early Thursday.
The altercation came after police on routine patrol were waved down by a 24-year-old man who said his iPhone and cash were stolen in the vestibule of a bank by a man in his 40s.
Police said an officer shot the man twice in the chest after several officers chased him on Davidson Avenue in the Bronx, spotting a gun in his hand. The man was taken to St. Barnabus Hospital and pronounced dead.
Police said they recovered a loaded .380-caliber handgun and the stolen iPhone from him.
