Responses to Court Decision for New Elections in Beit Shemesh

abutbulShas leader Aryeh Deri lamented the court’s decision ordering new elections in Beit Shemesh. Deri stated “I am saddened that the honorable court opted to following the media campaign and disqualify the decision of the democratic process of the residents of the city. I am confident that Abutbul will win again, by an even larger margin.”

Abutbul is affiliated with the Shas party.

Likud candidate Eli Cohen, who lost to Abutbul by 956 votes, praised the decision, calling it a “win for democracy”. Cohen expressed his wish that the hate and incitement will be a thing of the past, stressing his commitment to transparency in government and a dignified respectful process that will permit city residents to select the mayor of their choice.

Beit Shemesh Deputy Mayor (Degel Hatorah) Shmuel Greenberg announced he will appeal the Jerusalem District Court decision to the Supreme Court. Greenberg added “the court was dragged in by the media atmosphere of incitement and it failed to correctly weigh the facts pointing to a weak case lacking evidence, one based on rumors.”

Mayor Abutbul’s attorney, Yaakov Weinrott announced an appeal will be filed to challenge the decision disqualifying the election.

  1. Now that is the pot calling the kettle black. Don’t people remember that MK Aryeh Deri was imprisoned for moral turpitude? Back then it was also l’shem shamayim by funding Torah institutions. If there was election fraud in Beit Shemesh, it was l’shem shamayim so it must be “okay”…

Why is the midah of yashrus apparently thrown out the window among certain politicians?

  2. Does anyone remember what they were saying about/against the charedim and Abotbul for months BEFORE the election?

Now that is the pot calling the kettle black. …

In his press conference on Tuesday 16 Adar 5773, Bayit HaYehudi leader Naftali Bennett explained “unfortunately we are not immune” in addressing allegations of voter fraud in his party’s primary election race. Bennett has also been addressing the ongoing police investigation on his Facebook page.

The news of possible voter fraud involving veteran NRP MK Nissim Slomiansky seems to be snowballing, and Bayit Yehudi is in the midst of the election fraud storm. Bennett has admitted that during the primary election period he had suspicions of inappropriate activities, which led him to hire a private investigator. He adds that the issues were addressed and correct, and in his effort to exhibit an air of transparency, he added that “thousands of voter ballots were tossed” to make sure any ballot that was questionable was not counted.

Police seem to feel there is sufficient evidence to push the case against Slomiansky, who continues to maintain his innocence, expressing his commitment to cooperate with police in any way possible, confident of his innocence. Nevertheless, what has so many people baffled is the fact that Slomiansky, who presents the old guard National Religious Party was not only successful in landing a realistic slot on the party ticket, but he came in first place against many of the more popular newer generation MKs.

    Sorry wrong “chevre”

  3. This is great news! This allows the next four years to be without hatred. If aboutbul wins then it’s time for the opposition to accept it and if they lose then there is always four years from now.
