House Foe of Health Overhaul Still Top GOP Target

obcDemocrat Mike McIntyre is the only member of his party in the House to vote consistently against President Barack Obama’s troubled health care law. But that might not be enough to help the North Carolina Democrat survive his re-election fight in 2014.

Republicans redrew McIntyre’s already-conservative district in 2010 to ensure his defeat two years later. But McIntyre surprised them in 2012. He beat state senator David Rouzer by 654 votes, the smallest victory margin of any House race that year.

The two are poised for a re-match next year. Experts say Obama’s low approval ratings could prove more damaging to McIntyre this time — even if the congressman can say he was right about the health care law’s problems from the beginning.
