After gedolei yisrael and roshei yeshivos of the Ashkenazi litvish and chassidish factions convened last week to address the imminent new chareidi draft law, prominent Sephardi roshei yeshiva are planning to do the same this week. The event is being hosted in the Shirat Yerushalayim Hall near Har Nof.
It is likely that the Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael of Shas will convene ahead of the kenos to finalize its position on the draft law.

Most Sefardim serve in the Army. Give me a break
Shas has more to lose if they insist on preserving their yeshivos since their supporters are much more dependent on government funding. They also have more at risk since unlike the Ashkenazim (except for Habad), they are still trying to keep their Baal ha-Battim within the Jewish community(whereas the Ashkenazi Baal ha-Battim abandonned Torah in the 20th century and they are now leading the charge against Torah and Mitsvos). If they go along with the draft it means closing down their yeshivos and reversing the heroic and in many ways successful efforts of Shas over the last generation.
