Two French attorneys hired by the parents of Gilad Shalit have arrived in Cairo as they continue efforts to jumpstart negotiations towards his release from Hamas captivity. Shalit in June marked two years in captivity.

According to reports from Cairo, the two attorneys stated Gilad is not in poor health, yet the report does not cite the source of the information. To date, government officials have indicated they do not have any information regarding his well-being.

The attorneys are scheduled to remain in Cairo until Tuesday, at which time they will return to France. Hamas officials are also expected to be arriving in Cairo and the Shalits are hopeful this will lead to talks.

In the meantime, French officials are signaling that French President Nicolas Sarkozy is continuing efforts to obtain Gilad’s release as he promised he would during a recent visit to Jerusalem. Gilad Shalit has French citizenship.

Shalit has been in captivity 726 days.
