The levaya of the Gadol HaDor, HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, z’tl, will begin on Sunday at 11 a.m. from his home on Rechov Rashbam in Bnei Brak. HaRav Chaim, z’tl, will be buried next to his wife, Rebbetzin Batsheva Esther Kanievsky, a’h, at the Zichron Meir Beis HaChaim in Bnei Brak.
Israel Police are preparing for 700,000 to a million participants, in what may be the largest levaya ever held in the state of Israel. [There were up to 850,000 attendees at the levaya of HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef, zt’l, in 2013, according to police estimates.]
The police will activate the “Rebbe” plan, with about 3,000 police officers to be deployed to the area to ensure the public safety of the hordes of participants expected at the levaya.
Highway 4 will be closed off and turned into a huge parking lot for buses, which was last done at the levaya of HaGaon HaRav Shach, z’tl. Beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning, all the entrances and exits to Bnei Brak will be closed to cars, and access to the levaya will be possible by public transportation only. Highways 5, 531 and the exit from the Ganot interchange on Highway 1 will also be blocked Traffic jams are expected on Sunday in central Israel from Netanya to Rishon L’Tzion and Holon until at least 7 p.m.
Senior police officials have requested that the Israeli public avoid unnecessary travel in the Gush Dan region except those attending the levaya. “This is a huge national event, one of the largest the state of Israel will experience,” Israel Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai said on Motzei Shabbos. “The police’s goal is to ensure the levaya takes place smoothly and that every Israeli who wishes to show kavod to the Rav can do so safely.”
The Bnei Brak Municipality is setting up huge screens throughout the city so the levaya can be viewed via live broadcast from all parts of the city in order to minimize overcrowding as much as possible.

It is with tremendous anguish that we inform you of the petirah of the Sar HaTorah, Maran HaRav Chaim Kanievsky. He was 94.
Hatzolah rushed to his home on Friday afternoon after the gadol hador suffered a massive heart attack. Hatzolah members worked valiantly to revive his, but were sadly unsuccessful.
Rav Chaim was widely recognized for decades as the preeminent Gaon HaDor and the model of a one shakul b’torah day and night. The gadol famously finished kol hatorah kulah each year, making a siyum each erev pesach.
Hundreds of thousands of people sought his Brachos, advice and guidance over his lifetime, and he was the first person to be turned to in times of crisis and pain.
It appears that the Levaya will be held on Sunday.
HaRav Chaim Kanievsky was born on January 8, 1928, in Pinsk, Second Polish Republic, to HaRav Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky, known as the “Steipler Gaon”, and Rebbitzen Miriam Karelitz, sister of the Chazon Ish. He married Rebbitzen Batsheva Elyashiv, daughter of the late Posek Hador, Hagaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv. She was Niftar in 2011.
In his youth, he was known as a brilliant child prodigy who had a photographic memory for Torah and could elucidate complicated rabbinic teachings, despite his youth.

Reb Chaim Zecher Tzadik Vekadosh Levracha was an amazing source of connection for Klall Yisroel and Hashem.
He was so disconnected from gashmiyus and was just a pure walking Sefer Torah that gave himself over to Klall Yisroel.
I had a story…
When I was eating a seudah in his house I asked what bracha do we make on schnitzel, Reb Chaim asked “vos iz schnitzel, inch veist nisht vos dos iz”

Safe to assume that Rav Yitzchok Kolodetsky shlita shall become the next address for people who need advice just like his Rebbetzen has filled the gaping void 10&1/2 years ago on שלישי של סוכות, but clearly this shall be way larger than life shoes to fill.

I hope the Police do proper planning for the Levaya.
I recall very clearly the Levaya of Rabbi Wosner in Bnei Brak. A lot of people almost got crushed. Many people had to go to the hospital because by mistake people got trampled on, similar to the Meron tragedy.
Now we see Iran’s nukes coming on the horizon as Biden and his evil ilk are giving in to the Iran deal. Time to bring back our kids to America.
To Bidenmyetc: Don’t be a prophet of doom. Words can make or break a situation. Don’t make a klal who for now feels bereft feel more despondent!! Remember that H-shem is always with us and sends us the leaders who rise to the occasion. Yiftach bdoro k’Shmuel bdoro! And maybe the message is that its incumbent in each and every individual Yid to daven and beseech H-shem for the needs of the klal u’prat.

Yes, this is a great loss for klal yisroel, but even the greatest tzadikim and gadolim do not live forever. The Rav, Z”TL was 94 YO and had an incredible life and left an indelible mark on the entire tzibur whatever their hashkafah in his pure dedication to torah and love for every yid. Over the years I’ve been amazed at how much of his time he gave to personal interaction with so many poishete yidden who sought is advice and a baracha. Lets be positive and look forward to what will be in z’chus of the life he led.
We have to remember meron and stolin and take appropriate safety measures…that can’t be allowed to happen again

Can someone please explain how these estimates are made.
In last election Shas garnered 353,000 votes and UTJ got 275,000. That number includes men and women voting. I get that it doesn’t include kids but how does one get to 850,000 or 1 million?
