Dozens of Jews tried making their way to Kever Yosef in PA-controlled Shechem on Friday. Security authorities did not permit them to reach their destination, with intelligence community officials explaining there are credible warnings that attacks are planned against Jews trying to reach the kever.
While it has become accepted practice to prohibit Jews from visiting Kever Yosef, in accordance to the 1993 Oslo Agreement, Jews are to have total safe access to the holy site – but in actuality, this has never been the case and the Israeli government continues to turn a blind eye to repeated attacks against the kever, apparently unwilling to act to protect the integrity of the holy site.
