For 7-month-old Ofir Sinai and her mom, what began as a ‘regular bus ride’ ended in a near-death experience, one that Shani will never forget. When the bulldozer struck the number 13 bus, flipping onto its side, Ofir Sinai flew out of the carrier, but Shani continued holding her, thinking to herself she will never let go.
Shani is still nursing, and decided she is not ready to leave her daughter, extending her maternity leave to remain home with her precious baby.
“The bus flipped from side to side” explained Shani, “but I did not let go. Then came two angels in uniform, and they gently took Ofir Sinai from me. I knew she was in good hands.”
Shani told rescue workers this was the second trip on a bus for her infant daughter – adding they were on the way to the central bus station to purchase the “100 First Songs’ CD for children. “We are not afraid” she stated, “and there will be many more trips in the future.”
