Israel Police has been involved in the search for a 78-year-old man who went missing in Givatayim on Wednesday night, the eve of 9 Teves 5774. Police fear he is missing due the storm, heavy rains and wind gusts. The man was last seen at about 3:00 PM heading to a local senior citizens center. Police fear he may chas v’sholom have fallen into an open pit or the like.
At one point he phoned home explaining he had fallen and sees trees and leaves around him but he was unable to give a location, sounding very confused.
Police have called on volunteer organizations to join the search. Ichud Hatzalah on Thursday morning put out a nationwide call to its over 2,000 volunteers, calling on anyone able to assist to step forward. Anyone with information is asked to phone 100 (police) or 1221 (Ichud Hatzalah).
UPDATE 13:35 IL:
The missing person has been found moments ago, now en route to a hospital for treatment of cold exposure. The initial diagnosis states the man’s condition does not appear to be serious Baruch Hashem.
