The New York City Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert for wintry weather expected to hit the metro area later this weekend.
The alert was sent Saturday for snow expected to arrive Sunday evening.
The Department of Sanitation says it has loaded 365 salt spreaders and attached plows and tire chains in anticipation of slick roads.
National Weather Service meteorologist Laura Nash says a low pressure system is approaching from the south — and snow is expected to fall Sunday evening, around 5 p.m.
Nash says the snow will likely turn into a mixture of snow and rain. She says it will rain on Monday.
In all, Nash says less than an inch of snow is expected.
