CHUTZPAH: Bennett Says of Rav Chaim Kanievsky: “I Appreciate His Work”

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said he is supporting Hagaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky and his family after they received threats over the gadol hador‘s support for giving Covid-19 vaccines to children.

“Rabbi Kanievsky is receiving threats and insults after declaring his full support for child vaccines, because he thought about the peace of the public and the peace of his community. Unthinkable,” Bennett tweeted, adding that he is “strengthening him” and “Appreciates his work” to keep Israel’s citizens safe.

According to several reports, Rav Chaim and his family members – most notably his grandson Yanky – have been on the receiving end of attacks, insults, and threats since Rav Chaim expressed his support for child vaccinations.

  1. Whats the “chutzpah”. The Rav has endorsed a public policy objective and Bennett is expressing his appreciation for the Rav’s support on this and other Covid-related initiatives.

  2. I enjoy hearing what goes on in the Hymish community- but it’s worth noting that this headline ( like many) is pathetic .
    Chutzpah ?
You guys really are a joke- A person like Bennett has no chance no matter what he says with your kool aid crowd .
    Sorry but the truth hurts-
    “Hymish “

  3. I know you guys arrogantly think you’ve cornered the market when it comes to spirituality , religiosity and frumkeit- and know exactly what the Ribono Shel Olam expects and wants .

Ironic- since even within this narrow percentage of right wing frum communities across the globe there’s discord , power struggles , constant infighting … etc

Quite a bit can be learned from the Bennett’s of the world- notwithstanding his political life and machinations.

  4. Where’s the chutzpa???
The headline should have more accurately read, “Bennett Thanks Rav Chaim Kanievsky and says, “I Support and Appreciate His Work””

  5. The translation of Bennet’s tweet that YWN published is inaccurate! שלום הצבור means “the wellbeing or health of the general population. In this instance, not “peace”.
Regarding the expression “פעלו” it means endeavors, not work! I think that Bennet tweeted a very respectful message. R’ Chaim has been at the front lines of encouraging the public to vaccinate. His voice is very powerful.

  6. I fail to see any Chutzpa whatsoever in PM Bennett’s comments. Is one not allowed to say that he appreciates what someone, even a Gadol, has done to protect Klal Yisrael?

    an Israeli Yid

  7. It’s possible to coerce any man appear to have said anything. It’s not Torah just because you heard it in the name of someone you heard learns shas yearly. It’s definitely not if it clearly contradicts gemaras. It’s obviously the establishment did something to make that persona of a Rav shill. Do not honor that man anymore. He doesn’t control his own persona.

  8. The headline is misleading. It reads and implies that what Bennet said is in some manner disrespectful and a chutzpah to say. That is incorrect.

It should say “Bennet says – CHUTZPAH: Those threatening Rav Chaim Kanievsky”.

BTW – the translation of Bennet’s words is off. “על שלום הציבור ועל שלום קהילתו.” is not: “he thought about the peace of the public and the peace of his community.” Rather, it should read, “he was concerned for the well-being of the public and the well-being of his community.”

  9. Of course, Rav Chaim never said this; it’s all lies. The chutzpah is the abuse of Rav Chaim’s age and Torah to promote something very much against the Torah. This also happened by the WZO vote non-heter, of course.

  10. So I’ll guess at what the headline writer had in mind: How chutzpadig of Bennett to thank and bolster Rav Kanievsky, when he (Bennett) rejects the kind of lifestyle that Rav Kanievsky leads and envisions for others (even in the size and number of layers of his kippa), coalesces with parties that are downright hostile to the frum, promotes policies on kashrut and giyur (inter alia) that Rav Kanievsky presumably opposes, does not make certain fiscal and policy accommodations that would favor the haredi masses, and so on.

  11. I strongly object to Schmendrick’s post and request that it be removed immediately (assuming I understood it correctly).
