SECURITY/DEFENSE:

*IDF soldiers taking part in counter-terror operations throughout Yehuda and Shomron on Sunday night apprehended eight suspects. Arrests were made in Shechem, Jenin, Ramallah and the Qalqilye areas. The suspects were turned over to the ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) for interrogation.

*4 firebombs were hurled at IDF soldiers in the area of Har Adar. No injuries were reported.

POLITICS, DOMESTIC & MORE:

*Sanctions began today, Monday, in the nation’s motor vehicle bureau offices opposing privatization efforts by the government.

*State-employed social workers still striking.

*An Iranian citizen was sentenced to death in Iran after being convicted of spying for Israel.

*A civilian and two soldiers were injured in the army’s Nesher Base after an asbestos sewer cover collapsed, leading to them falling into an old manhole. The fell about 30 feet resulting in the civilians, in their 40s, sustaining moderate and moderate-to-serious injuries. The soldier was lightly injured.

*Disabled Israelis are continuing their vigil outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Yerushalayim demanding increased national government assistance.

*Health Ministry Director-General Dr. Avi Yisraeli is calling for urgent action towards preparing northern region medical facilities for an earthquake.

*Moshe Lasky was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison after he sold a bomb to an undercover policeman for NIS 7,500.

*EU Mideast Envoy Cibrián-Uzal accuses Israel of foot-dragging, taking too long to hand over security control to the Palestinian Authority.

*On Sunday morning, Smadar Haran went to the graves of her husband Danny and their two daughters to cry and apologize after she decided not to object to the release of their murderer, Samir Kuntar.

*Qatar’s al-Watan reports that diplomatic sources state Israeli and Syria will resume contacts via Turkey, planning two meetings in the beginning of July.

*A Karl Gustav machinegun, used in the 1950s, was discovered in a Taibeh construction site by authorities. One person was taken into custody.
